From "The Kennedy Corridos: A Study of the Ballads of a Mexican American Hero" by Dan William Dickey
... A book studying the corridos written, performed and recorded regardinig the assasination of John F. Kennedy on Novemeber 22, 1963.
Referring to a tragic event, national disaster, or death the corrido is often called a tragedia or "tragedy" ... Other terms for the corrido such as ejemplo designating a situation with a moral and reación meaning simply the relating of a situation or event are less common."
The term versos usually referes to the broadside type of ballad that is read and not sung.
"The (versos) ballads are printed on loose inexpensive sheets of colored paper and are then distributed and sold the country in town squares and markets by roving trovadores. These corridos, as most broadsides, concentrate on sensational themes of crime and disaster."
